Haunted Happenings in Salem this Hallowe’en

Taking place throughout October, the Salem Haunted Happenings festival is a celebration of all things spooky in the Massachusetts city known for the infamous witch trials in the 1600s. Great fun for all the family, The Salem Haunted Happenings features a full calendar of events including eerie candle-lit graveyard tours, spine-chilling horror movie screenings on Salem Common, a supernatural costume ball and a spectral fireworks display. Now in its 36th year, the Salem Haunted Happenings attracts more than 50,000 visitors.

The Salem Haunted Happenings takes place throughout various locations in the city and includes the below attractions…

The Salem Witch Museum

The Salem Witch Museum examines one of the most enduring and emotional events in American History…the Witch Trials of 1692. The main presentation is based on actual trial documents. Visitors experience the drama of that dark time though thirteen life-size stage sets, figures, lighting and a stirring narration as they are witness to the web of lies and intrigue of the Salem Witch Hunt.

The House of the Seven Gables

In 1668, merchant and ship-owner John Turner built a house on Salem Harbour that was destined to become one of America’s most beloved historic homes. Designated a National Historic Landmark District in 2007, The House of the Seven Gables is best known today as the setting of world-renowned American author Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1851 gothic novel. This year the House of the Seven Gables is celebrating its 350th year with a special programme of events taking place, including dramatic performances, storytelling and colonial kitchen demonstrations!

Gallows Hill Museum and Theatre

Gallows Hill is an incredible mix of special effects, live performance, costumes, story-telling, exhilarating surprises and jump scares blended with historical facts about the witch trials, ghosts and local legends.

Sinister Stories of Salem Tour

The Sinister Stories of Salem is a night-time walking tour of the historic city with spine-chilling stories, legends and also spirit mediumship

Cry Innocent

For more serious reflection on the tragic events of 1692, check out a performance of Cry Innocent, a critically-acclaimed live re-enactment of the witchcraft examination of Bridget Bishop.

Salem Food Tours

Salem has an awesome culinary scene and a great way to sample the local fare and learn about the city’s food history is on the Salem Food Tour. Learn about early colonial dinners, local history and culture, as well as Salem’s illustrious maritime spice trade and more.

Getting There

Salem is located 26km north of Boston and is easily accessible by bus or train with a 30-minute journey time.
